On 14 January the Centre for Advanced Study Sofia and the Institute kicked off a regular seminar on the topic “Bulgaria after Chernobyl”.
The year 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of the industrial and social disaster at the Chernobyl Lenin Nuclear Power Plant. The anniversary is a good occasion to revisit the consequences and (mis)management of the crisis in Bulgaria. The seminar is led by prof. Dimitar Vatsov and prof. Momchil Metodiev.
In the next few months, colleagues from different research fields will present their perspective on topics related to the aftermath of Chernobyl in Bulgaria.
At the opening session of the seminar prof. Dimitar Vatsov introduced us to the chronology of the events in Bulgaria and a more general philosophical perspective on their political and moral assessment.
The journalist Neda Uzunkoleva from “Boulevard Bulgaria” tells about the presentation of prof. “Bulgarian Chernobyl” – prof. Dimitar Vatsov in search of answers how it could have happened.
